Tales of Nové Hrady Houses - Die Häuser von Gratzen erzählen

The Unraveling a Shared Heritage project also included the translation of "the Tales of Nové Hrady Houses" and the www.novehradyhistorie.cz website to German.
The book, which is named "Die Häuser von Gratzen erzählen" in German, is a didactic tourist guide through Nové Hrady. It tells the story of individual houses and streets, peers into the life of their inhabitants and remembers now forgotten people, crafts and events. The book was compiled based on authentic memories of old-timers, notes or written memories of the deceased, archive materials, articles and especially the books on history of the town, written by the archive master of Nové Hrady, Anton Teichl.
Not only locals contributed their memories of Nové Hrady, but those who lived here in the past or grew up in the town with their parents as well. Their stories bring to life the period of the First Republic, the Second World War and the post-war era. Some of the stories bring a smile to your face, while others are less happy or even tragic. The book also contains stories from other periods of the town's history.
The book is hardcover, 127 pages and A5 format. It contains 25 chapters which are organized as stops on a scenic path, not marked in the actual terrain but described in the book. The excursion starts at the old castle. About half-way through it leaves the town and leads to the Buquoy Tomb, from which it leads through the new town to the chateau park and then back to the old town. You may end the route on the square at the town hall, or continue to "5. května" street and end at the Bohemian House (Český dům) at the place where the fortifications and city gate (Horní brána) used to stand.
